If you have ever been to one of GuruGanesha Singh's concerts, you must have experienced the magical power of his guitar playing, which takes you deep into the soul of the music. On Guru Ganesha's CD Kundalini Surjhee he crystallizes this experience with the unique virtuosity of his distinctive guitar style. GuruGanesha spans the spectrum from traditional raag to other musk styles such as blues, jazz and rock, and beyond. His magical guitar playing and soulful voice alone could easily carry this album, but Guru Ganesha Singh presents some other important spiritual musicians on this CD, who give the music an even greater dimension.

Kundalini Surjhee 's opening track is the gentle kirtan tune Bhaja Man Mere , soulful and rich, with gentle soothing voices and sweet guitar melodies that gently lead to the debut voice of Tina Malia , whose purity and crystalline beauty conveys the true meaning of devotional music expresses. The musical chemistry between guru Ganesha Singh and Tina Malia finds another highlight in the track Bright Star , which is particularly hit-worthy.

As the album progresses you can feel the energy rising, akin to the meaning of the CD title, which can be loosely translated as 'kundalini rising' . This album's title track, Kundalini Surjhee , as well as the fourth track, Aval Allah , are accomplished Gurbani Kirtan compositions, traditionally featuring a lively tabla, call-and-response chants, and a stunning raga rendition on guitar. These two tracks soar to irresistible crescendos, becoming a musical representation of ascended kundalini energy. Featuring guest appearances from the likes of Jai-Jadgeesh, Mata Mandir Kaur, Tina Malia and Michelle Hurtado, these tracks carry many colors and variations, ranging from the fertile plains of Amritsar in India to the deserts of the Middle East.

GuruGanesha Singh enriches this CD with pieces that are particularly popular with his live audience. Among them is the devotional Walk with the Lord and One God , whose musical sensibility carries within it the artistic heart of GuruGanesha. Through the successful mixture of blues, jazz, rock, a little bluegrass and the deepest experience of devotion, these songs exude a very special joy. Guru Ganesha is accompanied by the luscious blues voice of singer Jessica Cauffiel , who brilliantly knows how to fuse gospel music and Gurmukhi mantras.

Last but not least, we also hear Thomas Barquee's silky smooth, easy piano playing, which is particularly evident on Mul Mantra II , a gentle and moving piece, as well as on One God , the perfect finale for this versatile album with the unmistakable foot-tapping call of the blues out into the world. With a successful mixture of acoustic and electric guitars, tabla, cajon, udu, keyboards, bass and the heavenly voices that come from the line-up with GuruGanesha Singh, Tina Malia, Jai-Jagdeesh, Mata Mandir Kaur, Jessica Cauffiel, Michelle Hurtado and Krishan emerge, the versatility and vibrancy of musical styles on Kundalini Surjhee creates an experience that truly makes the Kundalini rise!
