Story

To set a Pauree from the Japji Sahib to music requires a certain affinity for the musical tradition of the Sikhs. Even if it is impossible for a European to master both the pronunciation and the rhythmic emphasis of the accompaniment, this work is about being inspired by Bhakti, the devotional vibration. Here I have used the harmonium and electronic tablas to get as close as possible to the vibrations felt in the Golden Temple. The arrangement followed this spirit and gradually took on a freer, more cinematic character, less typical of the Sikhs, but still preserving the essence of the mantra revealed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
